The Long Jump: School Track and Field

The Long Jump is one of the most competitive track and field events. The jumper launches themselves as far as they possibly can, like a human catapult. The longest horizontal jump wins the gold medal.

Design a stationary robot capable of launching a ping-pong ball. Robots will be judged solely on distance. The judges will measure the distance from the original starting point marked with an "x".

Judging Procedure:

1) Robot is placed with the fulcrum of the catapult directly over the black start line.
2) Ping-Pong ball is placed in white chalk and then in catapult.
3) Vehicle is turned on.
4) Proper program is selected.
5) On the judge's mark, "run" is pushed on the RCX.
6) Ping-Pong ball is launched onto dark poster board.
7) Measurement is taken from start point to point where Ping-Pong ball landed.
8) Repeat process for trials 2 and 3.
9) Record results on rubric.

Rubric:

Trial 1

Trial 2

Trial 3

Ping-pong landed exactly this many inches from fulcrum
